The mission of AFD in Cambodia

Agence Française de Développement was authorized to operate in Cambodia in 1993 and opened its Phnom Penh agency the same year. PROPARCO, its subsidiary specialized in financing the private sector, began working in Cambodia three years later. AFD first devoted financing to the rural sector and the development of Angkor region, in line with its initial mission. The Group then extended operations to urban infrastructure projects (water, electricity) before focusing on agriculture, the environment and health in compliance with the Framework Partnership Document signed between France and the Kingdom of Cambodia in September 2005 and the priorities of the Interministerial Committee for International Cooperation and Development (CICID).

From 1993 to December 2006 total commitments in Cambodia stood at around €111 million (excluding its subsidiary PROPARCO’s commitments).
