AFD interventions support a process to ensure that production factors are controlled, particularly water, in order to securize home-consumed production for farmers, whatever the climate conditions. They also target the diversification of subsistence farming and its integration into markets where it is the most effective and sustainable.
AFD interventions target the following strategic objectives in line with strategies validated by the Interministerial Committee for International Cooperation and Development (CICID) :
√ to promote competitive and structured agriculture: involvement in support to defining agricultural sector policies, institutional support, commercial capacity building programs;
√ to promote effective and sustainable agricultural production: develop sustainable management models for irrigated areas in the framework of a partial management transfer to users, contribute to agricultural diversification, develop sectoral diversification, particularly in the rubber sector;
√ the sustainable and integrated management of water resources, especially in agriculture: regional management to support the Mekong River Commission (MRC), support to integrated water resource management in irrigation projects, research on water saving techniques for irrigation.
