The AFD’s projects
The AFD, the chief operator in the French Official Development Assistance mechanism, is active in more than 60 countries in Africa, the Pacific, Asia, the Indian Ocean and the Mediterranean as well as in the Caribbean and the plateau region of Guyana. It conducts missions on its own behalf and on that of the State.
In each of its geographic zones, the Agency contributes to funding public or private development projects via subsidies or concessional loans.
In addition, the Agency and its subsidiary Proparco support private sector development by extending credit and providing other financial tools, such as loan guarantees, thus making it possible to tap resources in local currencies.
The planning of these projects is very exacting and they are regularly assessed in order to contribute to experience capitalisation and exchange for the donor community.
