AFD and UNDP invite you to the launch of the first
“Growing Inclusive Markets” Initiative report
:

“Enterprises faced with the challenges of poverty: winning strategies”

Tuesday 1 July 2008 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

AFD headquarters, Jacques Alliot Conference Room, 5 rue Roland Barthes, 75012 Paris

The sheer extent of poverty in the world today means urgent action is required. Almost 2.6 billion people out of the total world population of 6.4 billion live on less than 2 dollars a day. Over a billion people do not have access to drinking water, 1.6 billion do not have access to electricity and 5.4 billion have no access to Internet.

Yet poor populations have a widely unexploited potential in terms of consumption, production, innovation and entrepreneurship. This report shows how enterprises can serve poor populations as both clients and consumers and also integrate them in economic circuits as producers, workers and entrepreneurs. The report uses 50 case studies and provides a number of examples of enterprises which, by integrating poor populations into the business world, create profits, new growth opportunities and improve the lives of poor populations. To integrate poor populations into the business world can, after all, be beneficial to everyone.
