Board of Directors meeting the 17 December 2009 : AFD deploys nearly one billion euros for emerging and developing countries.

Education and health in Benin, Congo, Togo, the Palestinian Territories and Santo Domingo, water in Burkina Faso and Comoros, vocational training in Gabon, urban management in Ghana, Kenya, Vietnam and the Philippines: AFD deploys almost a billion euros to support sustainable development at its 17 December 2009 Board of Directors meeting.

Société Générale and Agence Française de Développement join forces to give entrepreneurs in Africa and the Mediterranean easier access to financing

In order to speed up the process to finance entrepreneurs in Africa and the Mediterranean, Frédéric Oudéa, Chairman and CEO of Société Générale, signed an agreement today with Jean Michel Severino, Director General of Agence Française de Développement, in the presence of Jean Louis Mattei, Director of International Retail Banking at Société Générale Group. 

The AFD, Citées Unies France (CUF), the city of Mulhouse and Alsace IRCOD. organize the 21 of January a "Madagascar Day". It will be held at the headquarters of the AFD.

Le jeudi 21 Janvier, l’AFD en partenariat avec Citées-Unies-France, la Ville de Mulhouse et l’IRCOD, organise dans ses locaux une Journée consacrée à Madagascar. Cet évènement s’articulera autour du thème de la coopération décentralisée en direction de Madagascar, notamment dans le contexte de la crise malgache. Cette journée commencera par la restitution du travail de capitalisation d’un projet de réhabilitation des marchés à Mahajanga qui sera présentée par Benjamin Michelon, de l’Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne. L’après-midi un débat sera organisé par le groupe-pays Madagascar de Citées-Unies-France sur le thème « Les répercussions de la crise malgache sur la coopération décentralisée ». To mark the 12th edition of International Solidarity Week, the French Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and Agence Française de Développement are sponsoring a series of 26 short TV programs about development aid to be shown on France Télévisions

AFD operates in France’s Overseas local authorities in its traditional capacity as a financial institution when financing requests are made by the relevant authorities. The guidelines for AFD’s general policy are defined in close cooperation with the French Secretariat for Overseas France, which is one of the State representatives on AFD’s Overseas France Committee and Board of Directors.

AFD and BOAD scale up partnership: €50.5M of financing for agriculture projects in Africa

On 28 September 2009, in the presence of representatives in Paris of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), Jean Michel SEVERINO, Chief Executive Officer of AFD, and Abdoulaye BIO-TCHANE, President of the BOAD, signed a 50 million euro loan agreement. This loan will finance non-market public agriculture projects and contributes to the financial mobilization for agriculture and food security promoted by France.

AFD is participating in the “planète mode d’emploi” (The Planet: how does it work?) fair

Agence Française de Développement (AFD) will be inviting the general public to visit its stand during the Planète Mode d’Emploi Fair (The Planet: how does it work?) so that they can find out about its action, projects and beneficiaries. France confirms its cooperation with the world’s largest nature protection network

Alain Joyandet, French Secretary of State for Cooperation and Francophonie, Chantal Jouanno, Secretary of State for Ecology, Marie-Luce Penchard, Secretary of State for Overseas France, and Jean-Michel Severino, Chief Executive Officer of Agence française de développement, signed this morning a new agreement with International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), represented by its Director General, Julia Marton-Lefèvre. The partnership agreement initiated in 2005 between France and IUCN has consequently been renewed for four years, thus strengthening France’s commitment to biodiversity protection.

AFD Awards $ 3.5 Million Loan for Environmental Businesses in Developing World

The French Development Agency (Agence Française de Développement) signed a $3.5 million agreement on July 7 for expansion of an innovative fund supporting green businesses.

AFD and the City of Paris form partnership to support development

Bertrand Delanoë, Mayor of Paris, and Jean-Michel Severino, Chief Executive Officer of Agence Française de Développement (AFD), signed a partnership framework agreement on 2 July in the presence of Pierre Schapira, Deputy Mayor in charge of international relations, European affairs and Francophonie. The aim is to conduct joint actions in various countries, including Amman in Jordan and Jericho in the Palestinian Territories.

Conference: Leading Group on Solidarity Levies to Fund Development

At a ceremony held on Monday 27 April 2009 at Agence Française de Développement, Jean-Michel Severino, Chief Executive Officer of AFD, gave the Prix Tropiques 2009 award to Kossi Efoui (Togo) for his novel Solo d’un revenant (Editions du Seuil).

Investment and Support Fund for Businesses in Africa (FISEA) Board of Directors Meeting Held

The Board of Directors of the Investment and Support Fund for Businesses in Africa (FISEA - Fonds d’investissement et de soutien aux entreprises en Afrique) met today and the first projects were approved. This 250 million euro investment fund is expected to help create over 100 000 jobs in Africa.

Agence Française de Développement signs an agreement with the Andean Development Corporation

CAF President & CEO, Enrique Garcia, and AFD Chief Executive Officer, Jean-Michel Severino, signed a Memorandum of Understanding today. The agreement aims to build partnerships to enable both institutions to scale up their actions in favor of sustainable development, regional integration and the protection of global public goods, particularly climate change, biodiversity and pandemics.
