AFD: almost a billion euros of financing in the French Overseas Communities in 2009

With almost a billion euros (€973M) of financing in 2009, Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Group has been scaling up its support for the French Overseas Communities and private sector.

Work begins on setting up a Mediterranean Carbon Fund

New partnership between Monegasque Cooperation, Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and AFD

Mr. Jean-Michel Severino, Chief Executive Officer of AFD, signed a Partnership Framework Agreement on 2 April with the Principality of Monaco and the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation in the presence of HSH the Sovereign Prince. The aim of this agreement is to structure future partnerships to cofinance projects, develop technical, scientific and methodological cooperation and organize conferences-roundtables. 

AFD and CPCCAF kick off the Universities of Consular Cooperation

Jean-Michel Severino, Chief Executive Officer of Agence Française de Développement, and Omar Derraji, President of the Permanent Conference of African and French-Speaking Consular Chambers (CPCCAF), signed a €200 000 agreement on 9 April 2010 to finance the Universities of Consular Cooperation to be held from 29 June to 7 July at the HEC business school in Jouy-en-Josas, France.

AFD to meet citizens to raise their awareness of development aid

Agence Française de Développement (AFD) will be welcoming the general public on its stand at the SUSTAINABLE PLANET Fair (Salon PLANÈTE DURABLE) so that it can find out about its action, projects and beneficiaries. It will also be an opportunity for the public to learn more about development issues, as well as initiatives they can participate in, such as AMUNDI AFD AVENIRS DURABLES, an innovative financial product that reconciles financial investment and development aid.  On the agenda for these three days: testimonies, film screenings, meetings with experts, readings and conferences.

AFD 2010 literary prize awarded to Raphaël CONFIANT for "l’Hôtel du Bon Plaisir"

To mark the “Writers from the South Days” held in Aix-en-Provence on 19 and 20 March 2010, Pierre-André Wiltzer, Chairman of AFD and Alain Mabanckou, President of the Agence Française de Développement Literary Prize, declare Raphaël Confiant winner of the Prize for his novel l’Hôtel du Bon Plaisir.

Société Générale and Agence Française de Développement join forces to give entrepreneurs in Africa and the Mediterranean easier access to financing

In order to speed up the process to finance entrepreneurs in Africa and the Mediterranean, Frédéric Oudéa, Chairman and CEO of Société Générale, signed an agreement today with Jean Michel Severino, Director General of Agence Française de Développement, in the presence of Jean Louis Mattei, Director of International Retail Banking at Société Générale Group. 

The AFD, Citées Unies France (CUF), the city of Mulhouse and Alsace IRCOD. organize in March a "Madagascar Day". It will be held at the headquarters of the AFD.

L’AFD en partenariat avec Citées-Unies-France, la Ville de Mulhouse et l’IRCOD, organise dans ses locaux une Journée consacrée à Madagascar. Cet évènement s’articulera autour du thème de la coopération décentralisée en direction de Madagascar, notamment dans le contexte de la crise malgache. Cette journée commencera par la restitution du travail de capitalisation d’un projet de réhabilitation des marchés à Mahajanga qui sera présentée par Benjamin Michelon, de l’Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne. L’après-midi un débat sera organisé par le groupe-pays Madagascar de Citées-Unies-France sur le thème « Les répercussions de la crise malgache sur la coopération décentralisée ».
